Blaue Gans

The Blaue Gans is the oldest inn in the city of Salzburg since 1350. The house, located in the trendy museum district of Mozart’s city was stylishly expanded step by step, to an arthotel. It is a place full of inspiration in the very heart of Salzburg, opposite the Festival Hall with its famous horse pond and on the main shopping street Getreidegasse with Mozart’s Birthplace and the museum and art scene quarter.

Location

Anyone who immerses into the magic of the world-famous city of Mozart no longer can avoid this. A unique landscape, architecture, art, combined with tradition and modernity at the same time – that is Salzburg’s special charm. The narrow streets and many squares of Salzburg’s Old Town are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Design

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR MAINSTREAM-DESIGN? Sorry, you won’t find it here. Our building from the 14th century lacks 90 degrees angles and perfectly straight corridors. Through careful interventions, grown structures became visible and the old building fabric was brought to bear. All the 35 rooms and suites are individually designed with natural materials and mastered by local artisans. The rooms are decorated with stucco and vaulted ceilings, marble floors, baroque doors and historic wooden beams.

Experience

Owned by the family since 100 years, owner Andreas Gfrerer took over the hotel 20 years ago and gave free rein to his vision. He carefully renovated the house and gave it additional tension with the brand “arthotel”. Behind the more than 600-year-old walls nowadays hides a distinctive art and design hotel, which has preserved its historical heritage, but has arrived in the present. It is an urban hideaway with a high quality of experience. Cosmopolitanism and urban flair are conveyed by the 120 contemporary works of art spread throughout the house.

Almost 20 years ago, innovative hotelier and owner Andreas Gfrerer realized his dream of a very special hotel: an urban hideaway for those who like to go their own way. The Blaue Gans is a Hotel for artists, creatives and urban nomads.

The Blaue Gans is divided into residential islands – from the herb garden, to the brasserie bar, to the restaurant and the reading room – there are various options for a “break out” of the fast paced everyday life.

Rooms

SENSE OF LIFE: REAL. ROOTED. GENUINE. True to the motto “In hotels you can stay overnight – or live there” the architecture of the Blaue Gans was adapted. 35 rooms and suites with no frills, lots of craftsmanship. All rooms are decorated with natural materials. The discreet coloring and skillful lighting create a feeling of freshness and lightness in the historic old building. The rooms are understated; solid carpentry work, noble high-quality fabrics, subtle colors and straightness determine the living feeling.

Restaurant

The restaurant Blaue Gans exudes intimate cosiness. In the centuries old vault with the original wall paneling and mural painting you feel secure, where you are transported back to the good old days, and where you can eat really well. The excellent cuisine is characterized by simple presentation and great craftsmanship. Chef Martin Bauernfeind conjures up seasonal delicacies and traditional Salzburg dishes. Only the highest quality products from the alpine region are used. Restaurant manager Jos Huppertz and his service team serve exquisite wines from the in-house wine archive.

The atmospheric authenticity of the wine archive is the perfect environment if you have reason to celebrate and want to gather people around you.

Bar

In the BRASSERIE-BAR you will find metropolitan design and a wonderful airiness. In addition to the restaurant’s entire menu, guests are spoiled with light snacks and finger food. In addition, a high level of taste for the palate and ears: a good selection of glassy wines, fancy drinks and selected spirits. Together with relaxed people and great music, it is the starting point or end of a successful evening.

These and other associations have been found by employees for the glasshouse. It is an exceptional, inspiring venue for meetings and workshops for max. 8-10 people, full of transparency and openness. In the glass house next to the herb garden you will find new creativity under an open sky. The daylight seminar room is equipped as follows: Flat Screen TV, air conditioning and ventilation, flip charts, pin board, presenter’s case, Illy coffee machine, tea bar, shredder.
